Hide it Pro vs Hushkeeper

Hide it Pro is a well-known name in hiding photos, videos and apps, with a disguise screen that makes it look like it crashed. Here's how its iPhone version compares with Hushkeeper's encrypted, account-free vault.

Updated

Short answer. Hide it Pro is light on data collection (only diagnostics, not linked to you) and has a clever fake-crash disguise. Its listing doesn't name an encryption method, charges extra for unlimited cloud storage and sells password reset as an in-app purchase. Hushkeeper publishes its encryption, includes encrypted iCloud backup for free and recovers with a phrase only you hold.

Facts about Hide it Pro come from its US App Store listing and official website as of November 2026. It's also on Android, per its official site.

"Not stated on the listing" means the App Store page doesn't say; it doesn't mean the app lacks the feature. Privacy labels are declared by each developer.

Disguise vs deniability

Hide it Pro's disguise screen makes the app look like it crashed, and an escape code makes it appear empty. Both are good at fooling a casual look. Hushkeeper's approach is plausible deniability: every pattern opens its own vault, the unlock screen never lists them, and Pro can swap the icon for Calculator, Notes, Weather or Clock.

Paying to get back in

Hide it Pro lists "Password Reset" as a $4.99 in-app purchase; the listing doesn't explain how it works. Hushkeeper has no paid reset. Tap Use recovery phrase, enter the phrase you wrote down, and draw a new pattern. Because we never hold your keys, there's also no way for us to reset it for you.

Backups

The listing offers cloud backup, with unlimited space as a $9.99 purchase, and doesn't name the provider. Its official site also says data never leaves your device, so check in the app what the backup covers. Hushkeeper's backup is in your own iCloud, free and on by default, and contains only ciphertext.

Privacy label

Here Hide it Pro does well: it declares only crash and performance diagnostics, not linked to you, and nothing used to track you. Hushkeeper also has no ads, no tracking and no account.

When Hide it Pro is the better choice

  • You also use Android and want the same app on both.
  • You like the fake-crash disguise screen.
  • You want to hide other apps, not just photos (its subtitle mentions apps).

When Hushkeeper is the better choice

  • You want a named, published encryption method.
  • You want encrypted backup included at no extra cost.
  • You don't want to pay to reset a forgotten code.
  • You want hidden vaults, a duress pattern and limited sharing.

Before you switch vaults

Whichever app you pick, move files across while the old vault still opens, check every album on the new side, then delete the originals and empty Recently Deleted.
